Families are created in many ways. When a stepparent wants to adopt their spouse’s child(ren) or a family member wants to adopt a child to whom they are kin, they will engage in a process through the court to finalize the adoption.

When required, the court mandates a report for stepparent and relative adoptions. The report is required to be completed by a licensed child placing agency, such as Compass Adoption Services, and involves an assessment of the family and home.
